How to Screen Print Drum Skins

    • 1). Create a design that you want to print on the drum skin or select a premade design. Avoid designs that will be difficult to cut out. Draw or print this design onto an A4-size piece of acetate.

    • 2). Cut out the parts of the image that you want to print using a craft knife. This will form your stencil. Put thick cardboard and newspaper under your work area to protect the surfaces.

    • 3). Place a prestretched drum skin on your surface. Place the acetate stencil on top of the drum skin in the desired print location.

    • 4). Lower the screen down on top of the stencil. Cover any areas on the underside of the screen that are not covered by the stencil with masking tape.

    • 5). Put ink along the top of the screen. Pull the ink down the screen with a squeegee. Hold the squeegee at a 45-degree angle for the best printing results.

    • 6). Pull up the screen from left to right to reveal the printed drum skin. Let the drum skin dry.

    • 7). Scrape any excess ink off the screen and place it back in your ink pot. Clean the stencil, squeegee and screen in water to remove the ink. Leave them to dry.
