Build a Pontoon Boat for Great Fun!

Boat building is a great hobby that many people have taken to over the past several years. Once thought to be a project only an experienced boat builder - or at least a master carpenter - could do, now the available plans make this a thing that many homeowners can do with the run-of-the-mill set of woodworking tools.

One of the most favorite boats to build is a pontoon boat. As long as you have a good set of plans, you can build one of these in your garage or workshop - as long as it is big enough, of course. These flat-bottomed boats float by using closed cylinders underneath. Many items are used for these: water drums, a set of barrels or PVC pipes. These pontoons can support a deck structure - or even a houseboat. For this reason, sometimes houseboat plans are built following the same basic design.

Pontoon boats are an inexpensive boat to build and are known as party boats. This is due to the large flat deck which can accommodate a lot of people for an excursion. When thinking about passenger capacity, the pontoon boat is the obvious choice. They offer a great place to hold a party or celebration and invite many friends to join you.
When selecting from all of the available plans online, be sure to select a plan that has been tried and tested. You don't want to be part of a market study that finds out the plans are haphazardly put together and don't really work for building a pontoon boat.

Pontoon boats can be used for more than parties. Many people like fishing from the flat deck and others like to have a pontoon boat for sunbathing. It can be a very relaxing time aboard a boat, just lazing around and enjoying the water. You can enjoy this type of boat with no other thought in mind, you don't have to party or fish to spend time on the flat deck and just relax.

The pontoon boat is one of the easiest boats to build from plans. And finding the floats (barrels or drums) is easier than you think. Sometimes you can even find these for free. Many times folks just want to get rid of these for no charge at all.

These boats are also considered a very safe water vessel. The risk of sinking is extremely low, so they are very popular. They are not very stable in rough waters, but for a normal boating outing, they are perfect.
