- 1). Select the text of your bulleted or numbered list by highlighting it manually with your cursor or by choosing the "Select All" tab under "Edit." These are the only type of lists that you can sort alphabetically in Word.
- 2). Select the "Home" tab. This is located on the left side of the Office ribbon.
- 3). Locate the "Paragraph" group and click the "Sort" tab. This tab is represented by the capital letters "A" and "Z" with an arrow pointing downward, directly to the right. Clicking this tab will bring up a dialog box.
- 4). Choose to sort by "Paragraphs" and select "Text" as the sorting type. Then choose between "Ascending" and "Descending" to determine which direction your list will be alphabetized. In other words, do you want your list to be alphabetized from A to Z or vice versa?
- 5). Select "OK" to apply the settings.
