A lot of people think that, by using kitchen cabinet plans to redo their kitchen cabinets, it means they have to follow the blueprint by the book every step of the way.
Following plans is important but you still can unleash your creative juice in the making.
You may have a great idea on how you want the style of your cabinets to be but not finding any plans that are alike.
Do not worry about plans killing your creativity.
Take plans as a starting point, to help you get the framing of the cabinets right and to get your cost estimate down and go from there.
The beauty about making your own kitchen cabinets is that the inside are pretty much build using the same principle.
The difference and the original touch you want shows on the outside.
So you still need to use plans to get started with the cabinetry, and the rest is completely up to you.
The possibilities are endless to create your own dream kitchen.
Let me tell you what we did in our kitchen.
My wife has bought a few months back in a woodwork show a nice armor to put china in that has wooden hummingbirds on the doors.
The armor is really beautiful.
I was actually a little upset that she bought it from somebody else because I could have done one like that myself, and it was quite expensive.
But anyway, she felt in love with it and beside she used her own money so what the heck...
Anyway when came the time to redo our kitchen cabinets, we were trying to agree on a design and she suggest that we finished them doing the same designs than the armor doors.
I replied to her that it would be too much work.
I really did not had time to sculpted twenty six tiny little wooden hummingbirds.
We finally made a deal: she would order the hummingbirds form the person who made the armor and I would do the cabinets the same style that the armor doors, which was not difficult, and all we had to do at the end is to glue the hummingbirds on the cabinet doors.
So I got my set of plans and did all my framing using the same kind of white pine than the armor.
The doors had a nice trim at about 2 inches on the inside of the edges all around them which I was able to make without fuss.
We were unable to find the same kind of handles than the armor so what we did is we changed them and put the same ones on both cabinets and armor.
She receives her little hummingbirds a few weeks later and we simply glued them the same way than on the armor.
After a nice coat of lacquer, the result was absolutely amazing! When we had friends and family visiting us once everything was done, everyone were sure that I had made not only the cabinets but the armor as well! Somehow I ended up getting credit for it even if someone else made it, not too bad!
