Pickup Truck Bed Covers -- The Soft Choice

Pickup bed covers cover cargo in more than one way. That's not to mention the improved look a covered bed provides. Though several types of covers compete with the soft covers, the soft tonneau offers certain advantages that make it a top choice. Here are 5 of the several reasons to get a soft cover for your pickup truck.

Bed Access Made Easier

Soft covers come in roll up, fold up and tilt models. But most popular is the typical roll up version. With rolling up versions, the cover rolls forward and stores as a rolled up unit to the pickup bed front. Then you have easy access to anything in the bed just as if the cover wasn't there at all.

Easier Installation

With soft covers you get a frame and then the heavy vinyl cover that attaches to that frame. For virtually all covers, the frame doesn't bolt on, it clamps on instead. So the installation is just placing the frame to the bed sides and clamping it in place. That means you skip all the complications and heavy pieces that are hard to deal with anyway.

Sealing Tips To Consider

Bed covers cannot be called waterproof, but some of them are certainly water resistant for sure. Being highly water resistant means that most dust and dirt gets shut out as well. It's a way to keep things out of sight as well. Seals are needed and included at the sides as well as at front and back of the bed. The side seals may be of several types. One popular style is the hook and loop method. With this style, it easy to get and keep a tight fit so you get a trampoline sort of fit of the cover to the bed.

Cargo Height No Problem

Maybe you haven't noticed, but some tonneaus will not work with tall cargo. Tilting hard covers won't shut over anything that extends above the sides of the bed. That means if you haul a lawn mower the lid must stay up. That's not very practical. On the other hand, soft covers of the roll up sort just move right out of the way so you can haul whatever you want to whenever you want to haul it.

Low Price

Some of the basic truck covers cost so very little. Not all soft tonneaus are the lowest price choice but you do have many very inexpensive models to consider. When you consider that many soft bed covers cost half of what typical hard covers sell for you can see the potential for a good deal. Look at a premium retractable cover and the version costs just a fourth as much or even less.

The overriding advantage of soft pickup truck bed covers is the lower price compared to other styles. But there's more. The covers work great for full bed access. They are easy to install and handle high cargo as if they weren't there. Good basic protection and a low price make for popularity for soft pickup bed covers.
