Health care administrators are responsible for planning and directing the services within a health care institution. These professionals must deal with the integration of health care systems, improvement of health care equipment and quality of care delivered, while maintaining a budget and staying profitable. Careers are available in hospitals, veterans facilities, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, not-for-profit organizations and community health centers. - The Commission on Accreditation Healthcare Management accredits the master's of health administration program at the University of Washington. The program is responsible for developing students' leadership, conceptual and technical skills and ensures that students are prepared for a variety of careers in the health care industry. The university offers a traditional program and an executive MHA program. The traditional MHA program is a 2-year program; curriculum covers topics in business development, project management, clinical program evaluation and policy analysis and development. Students participate in internships between the first and second years. The executive MHA program includes courses in managing health care organizations, health economics, capital planning and health policy development.
