Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt and former "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston have split up after 4 1/2 years of marriage.

Rumors of an impending break-up swirled throughout 2004. On January 7, 2005 the couple made an official announcement of their separation. In a statement published on People magazine's website, Pitt and Aniston said, "We would like to announce that after seven years together we have decided to formally separate.

For those who follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain that our separation is not the result of any of the speculation reported by the tabloid media. This decision is the result of much thoughtful consideration."

Pitt and Aniston, who were married in Malibu, CA on July 29, 2000, have pledged to remain friends.

Brad Pitt was recently seen in "Ocean's 12" and has "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" co-starring Angelina Jolie coming out in June. Jennifer Aniston's next big screen appearance will be in "Rumor Has It," alongside Mark Ruffalo and Kevin Costner.
