When a special occasion is coming up many people like to arrange a party to celebrate.
The traditional thing to do is to hire a disco or DJ.
This is still a popular option but it is less attractive than it used to be.
Why? Well music has changed, every generation thinks their era was the best, and since the 60's there have been a few trends! This leaves the DJ with quite a problem at a family party where the age range is wide.
If the DJ plays a 60's song all the young ones sit down, an up to date song and the older generation sit down.
I have seen this first hand as I use to be a DJ and stopped for this very reason.
A disco will still work where the age range is narrow (or there is a large enough group in one age group to create a good atmosphere) as the music will appeal to the majority and a great atmosphere will be created.
The other option is to play music that appeals to all (Abba, Robbie Williams, Village People etc) and that is fine as long as the audience is receptive to this, which most are later in the evening after a few drinks! As a result, at most family parties not a lot happens before the buffet / meal or until the party goers have had a few drinks.
This often means the early hours of the party are "dead" and many guests arrive well after the start time because of this.
The solution is to arrange entertainment for the whole family to ensure they all arrive on time and enjoy the night.
The ideal entertainment I would suggest is to hire a Magician and Children's and Entertainer.
I feel it is very important the magician can entertain the whole family rather than just the adults, after all the children are part of the family as well.
The early part of the evening is an ideal time to put on a children's or family magic show that everyone can enjoy and talk about over the buffet / meal.
The Magician would also be able to perform close-up magic for the adults adding further value and memories to your event.
Many Magicians and Children's Entertainers have worked in various areas of entertainment and you may want to find one that has been a DJ as well which would save hiring one separately.
By really thinking about the entertainment at your party or event you will ensure a really memorable time is had by all, which is why you are organising the party in the first place.
