- 1). Choose an online tax preparation service with whom to electronically file your income tax return. The IRS has a list of reputable online tax preparation services on their website, which you can find on their "E-File" page.
- 2). Create an account with the online tax preparation service you chose. Some sites allow you to file your income taxes for free provided your adjusted gross income is less than $57,000. Creating an account allows you to save your work.
- 3). Use your tax information, such as W2s, 1098s and 1099s, to fill out the information required on your income tax return. Online tax preparation services ask taxpayers questions about their income taxes and do the calculating for you once you enter your information.
- 4). Save and review the information you entered on your income tax return. Correct any mistakes or errors and submit your income tax return to the IRS electronically by clicking the "Submit My Return" button.
