Go For A Revision Rhinoplasty To Get Over A Bad Nose Job

Life is full of mistakes, and some are irreversible. But some can be corrected! Don't fret over a bad nose job; get it fixed. You can still have the perfect nose; you'll just have to shell out more cash for it. Chalk it up as a learning experience!

Plastic surgeons offer "revision rhinoplasty" for those whose nose job didn't quite go as expected. With this procedure, you can take your botched surgery and turn it into a success.

The Anatomy Of A "Bad Nose job"

What can go wrong? Well, it is a particularly tough procedure. It is tough to get exactly the right amount of work done in exactly the right places. This is why it's easy to mess up. It can fail because of the doctor's poor understanding of what the patient wants, or the patient's misguided expectations of what the work can do.

The doctor could have taken too much off, or not enough off. In some cases, the nose is asymmetrical after surgery and must be corrected. There can be other problems such as scarring or uncomfortable breathing.

What Revision Rhinoplasty Can Do.

The procedure is much the same as the original, but often lighter. Most of this is done for minor correction work. It's not the full scale operation of a usual nose job.

In cases where the doctor has not taken enough off, the second operation will be about removing just a bit more. When too much has been removed, your doctor will do a light nose augmentation. Asymmetries can be easily corrected by a skilled surgeon. In general, correction work is easier to do than full scale rhinoplasty.

Tissue is sometimes adjusted inside the nose to aid better breathing. In this case, the doctor will remove cartilage and tissue from key areas by making tiny incisions. Be careful to follow doctor's instructions for proper healing, as this is one of the major reasons that this must be done.

Mentally Preparing For Your Operation

There is one major difference between a rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty: The mindset of the patient. After you've been through a bad one, you are certain to be bitter and skeptical. It's important to keep your head and go into the operation with realistic expectations. It's an awful shame when you have to pay twice for the same operation, and you can feel cheated because the surgery didn't go right the first time. But don't despair!

Communicate clearly with your plastic surgeon at the consultation, and make sure you get it done right this time. Remember-it's a learning experience, and education can be expensive!
