- 1). Set the cartridge filter on level ground near the electric source. The impeller located in the cartridge filter pump rotates at high speeds. If placed on uneven ground, the entire filter will vibrate. Prolonged vibration can cause damage to the pump.
- 2). Open the pool filter housing to ensure the cartridge is actually installed. Whether you bought a new or a used cartridge filter, it's best to make sure the essential parts are there. If it's a used cartridge filter, take a few minutes to hose it off with a garden hose to make sure it's clean before use. Once the cartridge is cleaned, reassemble the filter housing.
- 3). Attach a pool hose to the cartridge filter outlet and the other side of the hose to the pool inlet. If you're having a difficult time inserting the plastic hose clamp on the inlet and outlet, dip the open end of the hose in hot water. This makes the hose more pliable and easier to fit over the inlet and outlet spouts.
- 4). Connect a hose from the pool skimmer to the pool pump inlet. If there is water in the pool, it should begin to flow into the pool filter pump. If the pool water level is not high enough to flow into the pump, do not run the pool filter. Increase the water level until it reaches the skimmer and flows through to the pump.
- 5). Plug in the pool pump and turn on the filter. As the filter is running, check all your connections for leaks.
