- The beach
Hit the beach! All of North Myrtle Beach's beaches are public and open to everyone. Swim in the ocean, build a sand castle, fly a kite, read a book, look for shells. Other places to enjoy the outdoors include Vereen Memorial Park and Gardens and Warbird Park, which is home to several military aircraft now on permanent display. Natural history buffs may also want to visit Bull Island and the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, about an hour's drive from North Myrtle Beach. - There are free festivals and concerts almost every weekend in North Myrtle Beach, particularly in the summer. La Belle Amie Vineyard offers wine tasting and music weekends in April, May and June; there are several free gardening weekends at Brookhaven Gardens; and if you're in town in June, don't miss the annual Blue Crab and Riverfest festivals. September brings the Irish Festival, followed in October by Endless Summer and November's Intracoastal Christmas Regatta and the Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade in December.
- Art lovers can visit the The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum to see changing exhibits and exhibits from the permanent collection of art focused on the life and people of the South Carolina low country. For those interested in history, free sites include the Civil War Collection, the Hampton Plantation State Historic Site and the Hobcaw Barony Visitor Center. The South Carolina Hall of Fame is also free, with displays and information about famous South Carolinians, including Dizzy Gillespie.
- Barefoot Landing
If you enjoy window-shopping and people-watching, head to Barefoot Landing, a recreation of a fishing village now home to shops and restaurants, or Marsh Walk, another scenic boardwalk on the water with boutiques and bistros. Both locations often have strolling entertainment and live music.
