- 1). Measure each wall of your room with a measuring tape. Write down the numbers on a piece of paper.
- 2). Cut each piece of shoe trim molding to length with a saw. Position the molding the way it will sit against the wall as you cut. Use clamps to hold the molding in place, if necessary.
- 3). Miter the end of the molding at a 45-degree angle using a miter saw if the molding ends in an outside corner.
- 4). Cope the end of the piece of molding if the molding will end at an inside corner. Place the end of a scrap piece of molding flush against the back of the molding you're coping. The back of the scrap piece and the end of the molding you're coping should also be flush. Use a pencil to trace the shoe molding design onto the back of the piece of molding you're planning to cope. Use a coping saw to cut along the traced line. The cope's end should fit over the front of another piece of molding.
- 5). Fit your cut pieces together along the walls to make sure everything fits snugly.
