Rather than just spend time questing, or just spend time looking for nodes, you could collect all your quests, than plot a route to do them all, and search for gathering nodes as you run through your quest loop.
You'll be generating gold and experience from the mobs you kill, improving your gathering skills so you can find rarer and more valuable items, and reducing the amount of time you spend wandering from point to point aimlessly.
While the exact plan you want to use will vary based on your characters abilities, this general concept is important for anybody.

These professions all collect mats that are used in later crafting processes, so there's almost always a demand for the products you produce.
