- 1). Prepare and clean the window area. If you need to replace the window because of a broken pane, use the broom and dust pan to collect pieces of glass. Go over the area with a vacuum cleaner to make sure all the smaller bits and shards of glass are removed. Put the drop cloth on the floor underneath the window.
- 2). Remove the old window. Remove the sliding sash by removing any screws or other devices that may be holding it in place with a screwdriver. Push and lift the sash into the top track and pull the bottom out. Tilt the sash towards you and remove the window.
- 3). Clean the window area of any dust to prepare it for installation of the new window.
- 4). Place the new gliding window on the slider. Insert the window by pushing the top of the window into the top of the track at an angle. Ease the rollers on the bottom of the window over the lip of the bottom track with a putty knife. If needed, use the rubber mallet to gently tap the window down onto the bottom track.
- 5). Slide the window back and forth to see if it moves easily.
