- 1). Draw 10 lines across the square plywood boards, spaced 2 inches apart. The two outside lines should be 2 inches away from the edge. Rotate the plywood 90-degrees and draw 10 more lines, following the same process and repeat this step with the other three 24-inch plywood boards.
- 2). Drill a 1-inch hole where each of the lines intersect. These are the sides to your cage and the holes will provide airflow.
- 3). Lay two 24-inch boards flat, parallel, 20 inches apart and set the 20-inch boards perpendicularly between so they're 20 inches apart. Lay one of the 24-inch sheets of plywood on top of the boards so all of the edges are flush and screw the plywood to the boards using 12 screws. Repeat this step with the remaining boards and one more 24-inch sheet of plywood.
- 4). Position the two sheets with the 20-inch boards on edge. The boards should be between the plywood so the outside edges of the plywood are 24 inches apart. Screw the last two sheets with the holes to the vertical 24-inch boards on the plywood. All of the corners should be flush and you should have a 24-by-25-inch frame. Use 12 screws for each sheet.
- 5). Lay the 25-inch sheet of plywood on top of the frame so all of the edges are flush. Screw the plywood to the boards using the last 12 screws. This is the base to your wooden cage.
- 6). Turn the frame over and screw two hinges into one of the boards that are on the 25-inch side of the frame. The portion of the hinge with the pin should rest on the outside edge of the plywood, be 4 inches away from the 24-inch sides of the frame, and be able to fold 270-degrees. Screw the half-hinges to the 24-inch board in this position. Screw the other half-hinges to the last sheet of plywood, so that the hinges are not visible when the plywood folds down. This is the lid to your cage.
- 7). Screw an eye-hook to the lid so it is 1/2 inch away from the 35-inch edge, opposite the hinges, and 12 1/2 inches away from the 24-inch edges. Screw the last eye-hook to the side that corresponds to the 25-inch edge of the lid opposite the hinges. It should be 1/2 inch away from the top edge and 12 1/2 inches away from the sides. Tie the string around the hooks to keep the lid closed when an animal is inside.
