- 1). Put on a helmet. Walk with the wave skateboard to a flat paved area free of debris. Locate the concave tail at the back of the wave skateboard. Place the wave skateboard on its side facing toward you, close to a wall or other sturdy object.
- 2). Place your left or right foot on the flat nose of the skateboard, depending on which feels more comfortable. Center your front foot on the nose. Lay your hand flat against the wall to steady yourself as you place your back foot on the tail of the wave skateboard. Push off the wall to start riding.
- 3). Move the nose and the tail of the board in opposing back and forth motions to gain speed. Swing your hips back and forth to create a rhythmic movement as the wave skateboard progresses forward.
- 4). Lean on your front toes to turn the wave skateboard in the leaning direction. Lean on the heel of the front foot to turn the wave skateboard in the opposite direction. Put pressure on the tail of the board to increase the sharpness of the turn.
- 5). Stop the forward and backward foot motion to slow the wave skateboard. Step off the wave skateboard when it has slowed to a stop.
