- 1). Determine which way the pile of the carpet lies by rubbing your hand back and forth across the carpet fibers. Rubbing your hand in one direction, the fibers will lay down. Rubbing in the other direction, the carpet pile will stand up.
- 2). Run your hand in the "rough direction" of the carpet, until your reach the edge.
- 3). Flip the carpet upside down, so the backing faces up.
- 4). Roll the carpet tightly, beginning at the rough edge of the carpet.
- 5). Unroll the carpet.
- 6). Set an electric iron to its lowest setting. Gently run the iron along the edges of the carpet. As you pass the iron over an area, pull it outwards with your free hand, encouraging the backing to relax.
