- Give the graduate a gift that documents the years of her academic career with a graduation scrapbook. Purchase a photo album --- perhaps with a cover that features her school colors --- and print the name of her school and the years of her attendance on the cover. Within the pages of the book, arrange photos that showcase her years in school, beginning with her first year and progressing through each year in chronological order. Include captions that illustrate achievements or events and occurrences from each year. Decorate the last pages of the album with graduation captions, such as "Here Comes the Graduate" and "Class of (insert year)" and leave spaces for the graduate to place photos from her commencement ceremony.
- Beginning college is an expensive proposition and many new graduates are lacking in the monetary fund department. To help the graduate get settled into college life, create a gift card box filled with a variety of different gift cards. Purchase a plastic index card storage box and decorate the outside with glitter glue, faux gemstones and sequins. Write a clever caption along the box such as "Survival Kit." Gather gift cards from different locations that will be useful to the graduate at the start of his college career, including bookstores, grocery stores, restaurants and home goods stores.
- Give the graduate a gift basket filled with actual items that she can use upon entering college. Purchase a shower caddy, which the graduate can use to tote her shower supplies back and forth to the bathroom, and fill it with some basic necessities. Items to consider include shower shoes, small toiletries, ear plugs, an eye mask, headache medicine and other health-related items that she may not think of when packing for her first year. An alternative gift basket option is to fill a small trash can, which she can use in her dorm room, with supplies she'll need for her studies such as a dictionary, thesaurus, staples and a stapler, push-pins, highlighters, pens, pencils and bookmarks.
- Keep the graduate warm and cozy with a homemade blanket. Crochet or knit a blanket using yarn that represent his school colors and perhaps incorporate the year of his graduation in the blanket. Another idea for a blanket would be to transfer photos of friends and family onto swatches of fabric and sew the swatches together to create a blanket.
