- 1). Draw or obtain the floor plans to each level of your home. Take a tour around your home in all areas to decipher a full understanding of the layout. Think about sight-lines from one space to another and how they tie together. Make sure the areas that are connected are designed in a cohesive way. Decide how you want each room/area to feel in terms of comfort and atmosphere. Think about flow and how each space relates to one another.
- 2). Decide which styles will work together and where. Obtain furnishings, lighting and decorative elements that work well together, follow your desired theme and create overall cohesion throughout the house.
- 3). Plan the colors to paint each space. Paint all rooms/areas in the planned colors. In Transitional Homes, neutral colors often work best because they are more inclusive when many space are connected in the layout. When there are so few walls, color can easily be distinguished as a theme and lend itself to the overall clean design of the home.
- 4). Draw on floor plans where all furnishings, lighting and decorative elements will go. Arrange them according to the plan. Take another tour to make sure all elements are exactly where you feel most comfortable. Rearrange any elements that may not work for you after the tour.
