Question: How Do I Determine if My Current Property Assessment Value is Correct and Fair?
Answer:
The best way to ensure that your assessed property value is correct is to make sure that the the Allegheny County Office of Property Assessments (OPA) has accurate information on your property. Check the Allegheny County Real Estate Web site to verify your property data and identify any errors. For a more accurate check, obtain a copy of your Property Record Card from the OPA Public Information Office in room 303 of the County Office Building at 542 Forbes Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh.
These cards contain more complete information than is available on the County Web site.
Once you have verified the accuracy of the data the county has on your property, check recent sale prices of similar properties in your area to help verify the fairness of your property?s assessment and determine whether you would be able to sell your property for the assessed value. Check with a local realtor, or visit www.domania.com for information on recent home sales in your neighborhood.
