Rigid-hulled inflatable boats are also known as RIBs. RIBs come with a solid, shaped hull, flexible tubes at the gunwale, and inflatable collars. The inflatable collars make it possible for a RIB to stay afloat even when a large amount of water ships aboard due to bad sea conditions. These vessels are both high performance and high capacity.
Sea.fari Adventures offers RIB trip Oban on their fleet of both open RIB and cabin RIB vessels. Their whale watching tours are offered aboard one of the cabin RIB vessels, and normally start in June of each year (depending on weather and demand). Their Corryvreckan wildlife tour runs for two hours aboard one of their open RIB vessels, and usually departs daily during the season (which runs from the end of March through the end of October). Winter departures may be available depending on demand and weather. They also offer a cabin RIB tour to Iona, which is one of the most important Christian sites in Argyll. Iona is home to the Iona Abbey, which was the foundation of a monastic community by St. Columba. This trip also includes a non-landing boat trip to Staffa. Additional RIB tours offered by Sea.fari include a 7-hour day trip to Colonsay and a 2 ½ hour trip to Garvellachs Islands. Both the Colonsay and Garvellachs Islands trips are aboard Sea.fari's fleet of cabin RIBs.
Coastal Connection is another tour provider that uses mostly open RIBs. They specialize in scenic wildlife cruises in the Sound of Mull as well as around the islands in the Firth of Lorn special area of conservation. There is a diversity of wildlife to be seen in these areas including basking sharks, otters, common seals, dolphins, porpoise, and Minke whales (just to name a few). Seabirds such as sea eagles, gannets, razorbills, great northern divers, shearwaters, common shags, cormorants, herons, greater black backed gulls, guillemots, and many other species of seabirds may also be seen on Coastal Connection's wildlife cruises. Some of their destinations also allow the sighting of land animals such as red deer, highland cattle, and wild goats.
In summary, a RIB trip Oban is a great way to see the wildlife in the Corryvreckan area and surrounding areas. Remember that it is colder on the sea than it is on land, and wear warm waterproof clothing for your trip (if possible, bring a change of clothing as Scottish weather can change in a millisecond!
