Side Effects of Tavist

    Common Side Effects

    • Tavist's side effects are usually considered to be minor, going away on their own as the body gets used to the antihistamine. However, if the side effects get worse or linger, medical assistance might be necessary. These side effects include the mucus of the throat or the nose becoming thicker, sedation, dry mouth, nose, and throat, dizziness, feeling lightheaded, problems with coordination, drowsiness, heartburn, indigestion and excitability.

    Serious Side Effects

    • If you experience serious side effects, seek emergency medical assistance as soon as possible. Some potentially harmful side effects of Tavist include rapid heartbeat, chest pounding, tremors, wheezing, convulsions, being less alert and hallucinations.

    Allergic Reactions

    • If you have an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical help. Some signs of allergic reaction to Tavist are swelling of the tongue, mouth, face, and lips; trouble breathing; skin rash; hives; chest tightness; and itchiness.

    Drug Interactions

    • Drug interactions can happen if more than one medication or dietary supplement is taken at the same time. Drug interactions can lead to decreased or increased effectiveness of one or more of the medicines/supplements involved, and also can lead to negative side effects. People who have used a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the past two weeks should not take Tavist. Some examples of MAOIs are tranylcypromine, phenelzine and isocarboxazid.

    Overdose

    • If you think you might have overdosed on Tavist, seek emergency medical help as soon as possible. Some symptoms of Tavist overdose include large pupils, flushing, dry mouth, insomnia, blurry vision, shaking, fever, weakness, confusion, disorientation, being extremely sleepy, seizures and hallucinations.
