- 1). Shut off the power to the ceiling circuit at the circuit breaker by turning the fuse to the off position.
- 2). Place a wood block into the hole in the ceiling and hit the end with a rubber mallet to break away the old electrical box.
- 3). Slide the ceiling brace into the hole and place it so that it is running horizontally in the hole. Rotate the feet until the brace is lengthened and holds. Snap the metal saddle onto the rod so that the saddle is over the hole.
- 4). Slide the wires coming out of the ceiling through the new metal electrical box that comes with your fan and secure it to the saddle, using the saddle screws.
- 5). Cut a piece of copper grounding wire and loop it around the grounding screw in the electrical box. This is the only screw in the box so it is easy to see.
- 6). Place the hanging bracket for the fan over the electrical box and screw it into the ceiling with the included screws.
- 7). Insert the downrod into the fan's main body, sliding the wires from the fan body through the downrod so they are exposed at the top.
- 8). Connect the ground wire in the electrical box to the green wire of the fan using a wire nut to bring the two together. Connect the white neutral wire to the neutral wire coming from the ceiling and connect the blue and black wire from the fan to the red or black hot wire coming from the ceiling.
- 9). Connect the fan blades according to the fan instructions and plug in the light to the ceiling fan. There is usually a cluster of wires wrapped together that plugs the light and radio receiver for the remote to the light housing. Simply plug it in.
