Dissolving Soap Scum in a Tub Drain

    • 1). Allow the tub to drain completely. Remove the drain stopper and inspect the drain to make sure no water remains.

    • 2). Pour ½ cup of sodium bicarbonate – baking soda – down the drain.

    • 3). Add ½ cup of white vinegar to the drain. Allow the sodium bicarbonate and vinegar to interact for 15 minutes. The mixture will foam up and rise up the drain.

    • 4). Pour 1 gallon of boiling water down the drain. This should dissolve the loosened soap scum.

    • 5). Turn on the hot water faucet and allow it to run over the drain for three minutes to flush the remnants of the soap scum through the pipes.
