Nursery Rhyme Costume Ideas for Girls

    Little Bo Peep

    • Transform a little girl into Little Bo Peep using a fancy dress and sun hat. Dress the girl in a sky blue dress with a petticoat or tulle underlay beneath the dress material, making the dress poof outward. Wrap a white apron around her waist and a matching bonnet on her head. Little Bo Peep wears white lace ankle socks and black patent leather shoes. Accessorize the outfit with a long cane and a small plush sheep.

    Jill from Jack and Jill

    • Since Jill came tumbling down the hill after Jack her clothes will be slightly messy and scuffed. Dress the little girl in a cotton dress that extends to her knees and has cap sleeves. Along the hemline of the dress, use dirt to add markings so it looks like she took a tumble. Additionally, pull the girl's hair into braids and rub them between your hands to create a messy appearance. Finish the look with a pail to carry.

    Ladybug

    • A trendy girl's costume, the ladybug represents the main character in Ladybug, Ladybug Fly Away Home. Style the girl in a long-sleeve red dress that extends to her knees, black tights and patent leather shoes. Create ladybug wings out of red nylon stretched across a wire wing shape. Use glue or threading to secure the nylon to the wire. If creating the wings are not an option, consider purchasing store-bought wings from a costume supply company. Place black circles of felt over the red fabric to create ladybug markings.

    Little Miss Muffet

    • Style a little girl like Little Miss Muffet by dressing her in a purple poufy dress that extends to her knees. Pull white tights over her legs and black patent leather shoes on her feet. Define her character by creating a hat to wear that features a spider dangling down the back. To create the hat, purchase a fake spider and wrap clear fishing line around the body. Attach the fishing line to the back of a bonnet so the spider dangles down her back. If the little girl does not want the spider attached to the hat, consider giving her a plush spider to carry.
