How to Use a Vexilar Dual Beam Ice-Ducer

    Testing and Calibrating

    • 1). Connect the end of the Ice-Ducer's cord into the Vexilar FL series flasher of your choice. Set the beam angle switch to wide and hang the transducer about two feet above a solid floor.

    • 2). Set the flasher's gain to zero and the range to shallow. Turn on the flasher and watch the display as you move the transducer cord around. Stop when you see a second echo displayed on the screen, indicating that the transducer is almost perfectly aligned above the floor.

    • 3). Check the transducer cord to make sure it is hanging straight. If it won't hang straight, pull the cable and twist it in a circle to break any remaining sealant left on the cord. Re-test the cord to make sure it is now hanging straight. It still may not be perfectly straight, but you should be able to use the Ice-Ducer as long as the flasher shows a steady orange signal during this floor test.

    Using the Ice-Ducer

    • 1). Use an auger to drill a hole in the ice where you want to hang the Vexilar Dual Beam Ice-Ducer.

    • 2). Run the transducer cord through the float and the stop. The stop should be near the end of the cord and the float should be directly in the center, between the stop and the end of the transducer, with the tapered hole facing the stop. Connect the end of the cord to your flasher.

    • 3). Place the transducer in the water so that it hangs straight. Adjust the stop and float to keep the transducer at the proper depth. Do not allow the transducer to hang below the edge of the ice because it may become tangled when you haul in a fish. There should be at least 2 inches between the float and transducer to keep it hanging straight in the water.

    • 4). Rub the bottom of the transducer with water to create a good seal between it and the water below. Set the beam angle switch to either wide or narrow, depending on the area you want to scan.

    • 5). Check the owner's manual that comes with the Vexilar flasher for detailed instructions on how to read the display.
