More About the Plastic Surgery and Columbus Plastic Surgeon

Plastic surgery is more than what most of the people think. It is important to consult a reputed plastic surgeon in order to get the best result.

When somebody thinks about the plastic surgery, one might imagine a women beautiful, ageless, self-confident, attractive, perhaps somewhat artificial, who has been "made over" by a doctor or Columbus Plastic Surgeon. She has gone to huge pains to escape what she interprets as the ravages of age, to mask wrinkles, sagging flesh, fatty deposits, or other imperfection. Advertisements for plastic surgery often portray the patient as female and the doctor as male, sympathetic and paternalistic. The plastic surgeon's waiting room would be appointed in well-designed furnishings to propose luxury: chairs thick glass coffee tables with fashion magazines, leather couches and images of gorgeous people. On one wall, patient information booklets and brochures on every imaginable process would be tidily stacked on a Lucite rack. These publications, sanctioned by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons, would have titles such as Abdominoplasty, Blepharoplasty, Rhinoplasty, Botox, Restylan and Liposuction, to state some. The women in the pictures would be attractive and young. But, this envisions only one kind of plastic surgery, the popularized cosmetic or esthetic plastic surgery, and the answer to fantasized ideals. In reality, plastic surgery is much more than fixing the signs of age or desperately seeking perfection. It is a medical specialty that arose from the need to undo the violence perpetrated by humans against other humans, in fights, battles, wars or nuclear disasters.

Some of the early damage to facial features was extreme corporal punishment in the form of nose amputations for sinners, men who had committed adultery. Those men were stigmatized for life unless they could get some kind of correction. Some of the first surgical procedures were developed to restore noses. A long period of progress in general surgery and anatomy had to take place before plastic surgery could branch out.

Other than genetic anomalies and birth defects, historically the most severe traumatic events that required surgery were burns from gunshot wounds or fires, wounds that extended beyond the skin€"into muscle and ligament, cancers, and chronic festering infections that destroyed tissue and refused to heal. To treat those injuries, Columbus Plastic Surgeon developed a variety of grafts, flaps, and implants. Initially, plastic surgery was a small especially primarily devoted to reestablishing normal function in children with developmental defects or to repair wounds that required grafts. However, in between the two World Wars, plastic surgery developed into a huge specialty. The specialty to repair the errors of inheritance or damage sustained by the human body has undergone many changes in technique, training, and technology. In addition to these emergent medical necessities, cosmetic or esthetic plastic surgery developed into a specialty within a specialty.
