How to Keep Your Room Clean & Organized

How to Keep Your Room Clean & Organized

    • 1). Do a once over and clean your room before you start. Go through and clean a little bit at a time until you have your room relatively clean. Don't worry about organizing too much doing the first cleaning. Start with one small area of a room at a time if the whole room is too overwhelming.

    • 2). Organize your stuff. Find a good place in your room that makes sense for everything you use. If you don't have a good desk with shelves and drawers, consider buying one. If you use something often, it is OK to keep it out in the open. If you don't use something often find a logical place to put it out of sight. Make the decision to throw out what you don't need or use. If you don't have a lot of storage space, consider buying plastic lidded containers to store items in. You can put these containers in the attic, under the bed or on a shelf. If you don't have a shelf you may want to buy and install some shelving.

    • 3). Devote a certain amount of time each day to cleaning your room. In general, you should clean up after yourself without letting too much time pass after you use it. If you clean up after yourself, you will not have to spend much time doing scheduled cleaning, but you will have to do some routine maintenance such as vacuuming.

    • 4). Setup a command area where you do things such as pay bills or keep important papers. Try to keep this area organized. You will need to spend at least a few minutes a day addressing items and putting things away. Also, don't let your work spread out beyond the command center. You can use any area you want as a command center, but usually having a desk or flat area is helpful.
