- 1). Unplug the dryer from the outlet supplying power to the unit. Remove the two screws that are holding the dryer's top panel in place. Once you remove the screws, simply lift the panel up and tilt it back to expose the drum. You should see the belt limply sitting on top of the drum.
- 2). If the belt isn't all the way broken, you may have to tilt the front panel toward you to separate it from the drum. If this is the case, just tilt the front panel and slide the belt out from over the drum.
- 3). Take your new GE dryer belt and wrap it around the drum. You will see a mark on the drum where the old one was positioned, so just try to line it up as close to this mark as you can. If the belt was completely broken and you didn't have to tilt the front panel to remove it, you will have to tilt the panel in this step in order to get the belt around the drum.
- 4). Understand that there are two ways that you can string the belt around the motor's pulley. The first is through taking the front panel completely off. But, even if you go this route be warned--it takes someone with very strong, yet remarkably small hands to accomplish this feat from the front of the dryer. The best way is through the back. You may have to remove the vent hose.
- 5). Behind the dryer, remove the bottom access panel. Inside, you will see the pulley system attached to the motor. Depending on your model, there may be a spring or a flexed bar that is being used as a spring. In either case, wind the belt around the pulleys, making sure that you don't flip the belt.
- 6). Once you have the belt fully installed, close the rear panel and spin the drum to make sure that it is rotating smoothly. Lastly, re-secure the top panel in place.
- 7). Plug the dryer back in and reconnect the vent hose if you had to detach it when you gained access to the back panel. Now, simply toss in a load of clothes and let it run through a cycle to make sure that everything is running smoothly.
