I know that you must be thinking it is not easy to move a wheelchair bound person about their home, onto a different level, without an elevator.
This really isn't necessary.
You can have a wheelchair stair lift the same way you can have one to transport sit-on users on the house stairs.
This is not going to be as inexpensive as a sit-on model naturally, but, it is definitely going to be cheaper to install than an elevator.
For a start you don't need to start knocking your house about, making structural alterations to accommodate the elevator.
You have the stairs therefore you have the means to transport a wheelchair up them.
This type of stair lift will take more room on the stairs when in motion, but I wouldn't think it necessary for anyone else who is ambulatory to be using the stairs at the same time, therefore - no problem! It will require tracks at each side of the staircase, but it probably will take less room than the chair type when not in use.
Your supplier of this type of installation would be the best person to help you choose the best type of traction.
They could advise you about exactly what it would entail installing your wheelchair lift.
Just think what it would mean to someone who is confined to a wheelchair to be able to go up and downstairs without the aid of anyone else.
No matter how many times they need to visit one of the upper rooms they will not have to bother anyone else.
They will be completely safe operating the lift on their own, safe operating it and safe riding on it.
Not being wheelchair bound myself, I can only imagine just what a life changing application this would be, just to be able to go anywhere in your home under your own steam.
Not to have to depend on others and not to have to worry about how safe you will be when you need to go upstairs.
I think too about how much help this would be for the people who have responsibility for the disabled person's safety and wellbeing.
Either live-in or otherwise.
If say a parent was disabled enough to need a wheelchair, how relieved you would be to be able to make it possible for them to enjoy their own home to the full in the safest possible way.
You wouldn't need to constantly be worrying about whether they had fallen or were stuck somewhere in the home.
The peace of mind would be enormous and the freedom to enjoy life for the users of the wheelchair stair lifts would be so amazing.
