- 1). Open Paint, select the "File" menu and click "Open." Browse to a digital image to use for the flier, such as the item you're selling or a picture of your store. Double-click the file name, which opens the picture in the Paint workspace. Click the "Select" tool, which looks like a dotted rectangle, and draw an outline around the picture or part of the picture to use on the flier. Right-click the outline and select "Copy."
- 2). Pull down the Paint "File" menu again and choose "New." If Paint asks to save you digital image, click "No." Click the “Image” menu and select the “Attributes” option. Set the size as 8.5 inches by 11 inches and click the “OK” button. A blank flier page opens on the screen. Right-click the white space and select "Paste," which brings in your copied image. Drag it into place with your cursor.
- 3). Click the “Text” tool, which looks like an “A.” Click in the top section of the flier. If a text toolbar does not appear on the page, pull down the “View” menu and select “Text Toolbar.” Choose an eye-catching font for your flier, such as Arial Black or Elephant. Increase the font size to 100 or one that will make your words easily visible.
- 4). Type the flier headline, such as “All cat accessories half off,” “Midnight madness starts Sunday” or “Purses and shoes all BOGO.”
- 5). Reduce the font size and add additional information, including any dates and times of the sale, your address and other contact information, including a website and phone number, plus extra information such as a description of the items you’re advertising. Be sure to include any timing details such as “One night only” or “Extra 10% military discount this Saturday.”
- 6). Click the “Paintbrush” tool, select the medium square brush head and choose a color from the “Color Picker” at the bottom of the screen. Draw an outline of the item you’re advertising, such as a shoe, couch or bicycle. If the item is too intricate or doesn’t apply, such as if you’re advertising services such as babysitting or grass cutting, draw an item such as an alarm clock, dollar bill or smiley face to capture viewers’ attention.
- 7). Give your flier a border by changing paint colors, switching to the small square brush head and drawing designs on the frame of the flier. Draw related images such as dollar bills or coins, hearts, paw prints or just an abstract design such as lines and squares to frame the flier.
