- 1). Back up your important data and files such as photos, documents, music and video clips. Burn these files to CD or DVD, or store them in an external Hard drive/USB.

- 3). Run the anti-virus program by clicking the shortcut icon on your desktop. Alternatively, you can click on the "Start" located on the lower left corner of your computer screen and navigate to the installed program.
- 4). Click the scan option from the menu. Select all the drives of your computer for scanning. Most viruses and spyware files install themselves under strange names and remain hidden. A security program is more effective at removing a virus than manual removal.
- 5). Wait for the scan to complete. This can be a long process, depending on the number of files and programs on your computer. After the scanning is finished, click "Show Results."
