Essential Candle Making Equipment and Supplies

Making candles is much easier when you have good sturdy candle making equipment and proper supplies.
This does not necessarily mean acquiring expensive state-of-the-art specialized candle making equipment, but rather things that you can find right at home if you do a lot of cooking, or even forgotten items that you have stored somewhere.
The first piece of candle making equipment that you should have is a strong double boiler.
This does not necessarily translate into using a smaller pan that fits into a larger pan, though that is an option.
A better bet is to procure a real double boiler.
These are engineered for safety and having this set up will allow the pans to sit correctly together without having to be so concerned about splashes burning you, plus the risk of the wax catching on fire is significantly minimized.
Another tool is the hot plate.
These can be bought fairly inexpensively at most department stores.
These are portable and can be used most anywhere with your double boiler.
That allows you to set up a dedicated work station and remove candle making operations form the kitchen, if so desired.
Additionally, you can place mats or paper underneath so if the wax spills it will be contained and clean up will be less.
There are various types of supplies that you will need other than just basic candle making equipment.
This list also includes the essential ingredient - wax.
Now there are different types of wax that you can use including soy, bayberry, palm, and bees wax.
Each will render a different effect but they all work really well.
You will also need wicks for your candles.
You can get the simple ones or those that are covered in wax.
The wax-covered wicks are much easier to work with because they are stiff already and it is easier to keep them in one place.
Molds are another supply item that you may choose to have and the options here are almost endless.
You can purchase these according to your experience and how much you are willing to spend on this endeavor, and also the storage space that you have.
As you can see you don't need a large list of candle making equipment to turn your home made candles into lovely pieces of art.
It's a great craft to be involved with and saves money over store-bought candles.
