- Burning an AVI file to a DVD is very easy in Ubuntu. As a Linux system, Ubuntu has many tools available that will automatically transcode the AVI format files to DVD standard file formats. These tools will usually do this transparently as part of creating a playable DVD from your AVI files.
To install a system to convert your AVI files to DVD, look under the Audio & Video sub-menu of your Applications menu. If Brasero Disc Burning is installed, you don't need to install additional software. If it is not, install the software via the Synaptic Package Manager in the Administration sub-menu of the System menu.
Once Brasero Disc Burning is installed, open the package. Browse to the file you want to burn to DVD by clicking "Add." Select the file and preview it in the Select Files dialog box to ensure that the file isn't corrupt. Click "Add" to add the AVI to your burn list. Add more files, if desired, using the same process. Once you have added all of the desired files, insert a DVD in your burner and wait 20 to 30 seconds for your system to recognize the blank DVD. Select "Burn" under the Project menu and select your DVD burner in the subsequent dialog box. Click "Burn" to burn the AVI to DVD.
