At 40,000 acres with 975 miles of shoreline, Lake Ouachita is Arkansas' largest man-made lake. It attracts anglers in search of bass, crappie and catfish, not to mention water sport enthusiasts of all kinds. According to Arkansas State Parks, it's also one of the cleanest lakes in the country. The lake boasts a state park and several Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds—the Corps built the dam that formed the lake. If you’re looking for commercial campgrounds, you'll have to travel a little farther afield. - Located in the Ouachita National Forest, Lake Ouachita State Park is within half an hour's drive from Hot Springs on the eastern side of the lake. The park offers historic sites and camping opportunities from tent spots to RV parking and cabins. The 103 RV camping sites come with partial or no hookups and both 30- and 50-amp electrical service. The park's facilities include a marina with boat rentals and fishing supplies, a swimming area, store and recreation in the form of water sports, hiking, swimming, picnicking and visitor center. It also has shower blocks and a dump station.
