- Heuchera don't need a great deal of space although they work well in clusters. A typical plant is only about 1 foot tall with a spread of 1 1/2 feet. Flower spikes on a plant that size might be up to 2 1/2 feet.
- Heuchera can be grown outdoors in zones 3 to 9 which covers most of the United States. However, the foliage can be damaged by extreme cold and can be burned by too much direct sun. Ask your grower which cultivars are hardiest in your area. Winter mulching is recommended.
- Plant heuchera in rich, well-drained soil. Enrich your soil by adding compost and peat before planting.
- Water your heuchera frequently and use a commercial fertilizer specific to flowering plants according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Heuchera are most commonly propagated by dividing. Every three years, dig the plants and separate a few clumps of young shoots for re-planting. Discard the woody center.
