What Does An Interventionist Do?

Hiring a professional interventionist is not always the easiest thing to do; especially in light of the fact that you are being confronted with the hopeless addiction of a loved one.
It is vital that you find a qualified candidate to mediate the mission of aiding your loved one in the decision making process.
You should understand that your loved one is suffering from an illness.
Things to look for in an interventionist *Sincerity - Does the intervention professional you are speaking with sound as if they are sincerely interested in your individual situation? Or do they sound as if they are reading off of a script and operating an assembly line structure of intervention services? It is vitally important that you have a genuinely concerned person to work with.
If it appears as if monetary profit is the driving motive then you may want to look for another candidate.
*Knowledge - If the voice on the other end of the phone line sounds as if they were making things up as needed to answer your questions then they are more than likely not the most qualified candidate.
The person should be able to describe certain characteristics that your loved one is exhibiting simply by knowing what substance they are abusing.
*Experience - Just because a person is knowledgeable in a certain field does NOT mean that they are experienced.
The most qualified candidate should be willing and able to site specific experiences from different interventions.
They should be able to tell you what strategies they have found to be effective and ineffective.
And most importantly, they should sound certain that they can be effective in bringing solution to the table.
*Honesty - This one is very simple.
Anyone who tells you that they can without exception get anybody and everybody to go to treatment and/or accept help is dishonest.
This is not truth.
The truth is that 99% of interventions are successful; however, this does not mean that all of the addicts accept help and go to treatment.
What this means is that solution is provided for the family no matter what.
It does not matter if the addict goes to treatment.
What matters is that the seed is planted and the family is given some coping tools no matter what the result is.
Please take and apply these guidelines to your search for an intervention team.
Remember that your loved one is not a bad person; they are simply ill and in desperate need of help.
