How to Wire First Alert Fire Alarms

    • 1). Turn the circuit breaker off at the service panel for the junction box that the First Alert alarm system will connect to.

    • 2). Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from the white coated wire on your First Alert fire alarm. Identify the neutral (white) wire in your junction box.

    • 3). Twist the two wires together clockwise and then attach the wire nut. Turn the wire nut clockwise until the two wires are secure. Wrap electrician's tape around the wire nut and two wires to ensure that the wires are not exposed.

    • 4). Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from the black wire on your First Alert fire alarm. Identify the hot (black) wire in the junction box. Twist the two wires together clockwise and attach the wire nut.

    • 5). Wrap electrician's tape around the wire nut and wires to ensure that no naked wire is exposed.

    • 6). Wrap electrician's tape around the orange wire's tip and push the orange wire into the junction box. Your First Alert fire alarm is wired.
