Try something different for the next party you throw and make it 1950s themed. The '50s were a great time for style and music, so take advantage of that. Let your guests know about the theme beforehand so that they can dress the part. Carry the theme into your decoration, food and party favors. - Host a rock 'n' roll 1950s party. Rock 'n' roll became popular for the first time in the 1950s, so feature music from Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and Frankie Valli. Decorate with old vinyl records and even rent a jukebox. Use plates and napkins decorated with musical notes.
- Throw a 1950s dance party and let all the guests dress up. Women can wear poodle skirts and bobby socks, while men can wear tight jeans and white T-shirts with black leather jackets. Then, lay down a dance floor and let everyone do the twist to their favorite Fabulous Fifties' songs. Serve cheeseburgers, fries and milkshakes, just like the soda fountain jerkers.
- For a smaller party, consider hosting a 1950s-themed dinner party. Wear a retro dress and high heels with an apron. Serve traditional American foods, such as casseroles, macaroni and cheese and meatloaf. Give everyone a candy cigarette to enjoy with his after-dinner drink.
- The 1950s was a good decade for the movies. Get a group of friends together and go back in time with some classics from that era. Watch DVDs such as "Singin' in the Rain," "Some Like it Hot," "Vertigo" and "Ben Hur." Decorate with old Hollywood glamor and use lots of sparkling gold items.
