The Gusman Center for the Performing Arts

• Catch a show at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts. This exquisitely restored theater dates to the 1920s, when it was built as a silent movie theater. Today you can catch films, live music performances, the Miami Symphony Orchestra and experimental theater performances inside the theater. The original Wurlitzer organ, played to create a soundtrack for silent films, is worth checking out while you're there: It's one of only nine in the world.

• A visit to the Wolfsonian-Florida International University offers a look at American and European paintings, sculpture, furniture, textiles and architectural renderings dating from the mid-19th to mid-20th century.
