Things to do in July in Memphis



 There might be plenty of heat in the city, but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of things to do in July in Memphis. The fun starts with July Fourth and goes all the way through July 31 with fun art exhibits and more.

For all the great July Fourth activities in Memphis, click here. There are fireworks shows around town and some Memphis Redbirds home games through July 3 before they hit the road for a bit.


The Beale Street Landing Twilight Tuesday Movies will continue through July. The lineup is “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” on July 7, “Star Trek: The Future Begins” on July 14, “Frozen” on July 21 and “The Princess Bride” on July 28. The movies are free, open to all ages and begin at 8:30 p.m. on the grassy roof of Beale Street Landing. No coolers or picnic baskets are allowed.

The Orpheum Summer Movie Series 2015 continues through July at The Orpheum Theatre in Downtown Memphis. The movies in July include “The Wizard of Oz” on July 9, “Airplane!” on July 10, “The Sound of Music” on July 23, a Fright Night Double Feature with “Friday The 13th” and “Nightmare on Elm Street” on July 24, “Hook” on July 30 and “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” on July 31. Doors open at 6 p.m. and movie begins at 7 p.m. for all showings.

The Levitt Shell Summer Concert Series continues through early August, with several shows taking place in July.

The Memphis Redbirds will play home games Wednesday, July 1, through Friday, July 3, against Oklahoma City; Wednesday July 8, through Sunday, July 12, against Nashville; Friday, July 24, through Monday, July 27, against Iowa; and Tuesday, July 28, through Friday, July 31, against Oklahoma City.

The Peabody Hotel Rooftop Parties continue in July with The 17th Floor on July 2, Star & Micey with Tyrannosaurus Chicken on July 9, Your Girlfriend on July 23 and The Dantones on July 30. Admission to most parties is $10; women and hotel guests are free before 7 p.m.

The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is featuring The Art of Video Games through Sept. 13. A block party for all ages will be held July 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors will be able to play, create and connect with art. It will include dance demos, art-making, a screening of the 1982 sci-fi classic “Tron,” the results of The Art of Minecraft Design & Build Contest and more. The event is free.

The South Main Art Trolley Night will be Friday, July 31, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the South Main Historic Arts District.
