- 1). Find a location. Finding the proper tree before you hang your stand is the most important thing you will do when it comes to using a climbing stand. Finding a tall, straight tree will not only make it easier to climb, but it will also be more comfortable for all-day hunts.
- 2). Set up properly. When you set up, make sure that you hang the stand so that the foot plank of the climbing stand is slightly angled down. This will allow you to climb the tree easily and should be level once you get to the desired height. Most trees will be smaller the further up you go, so you should adjust accordingly.
- 3). Climbing. Climbing the tree is sometimes tedious due to the small green branches that can be very frustrating during the process. This is the reason you should take a small hand saw that can be used to remove the branches easily and with minimal effort while climbing. The cut limbs can be placed along your feet so that you can use them for addtional concealment during your hunt.
- 4). Secure. Once you get to your desired height with the climbing stand, make sure that you tie the two parts of the climbing stand together. This is very important in case the bottom part slips off after climbing. Also, once you have reached your desired height, make sure the bottom and the top parts of the climber are at a comfortable height while sitting. This can be done by standing on the bottom and placing the top about waist-high. This will allow a very comfortable hunt.
- 5). Wear a safety harness. You should always apply a harness-style safety device anytime you are sitting in a tree stand.
