How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies on Houseplants

    • 1). Set aside as many glass jars as you have infected houseplants.

    • 2). Fill the jars with 1 or 2 inches of white vinegar, or place half of a peeled banana inside. Cover the tops of the jars with plastic wrap and press down, making a cone shape. Use rubber bands around the jar openings to seal them. You can substitute a cone made of paper such as a coffee filter.

    • 3). Poke a hole in the plastic wrap with a sharpened pencil or a pen.

    • 4). Set the traps near each houseplant that suffers from infestation. The fruit flies will be lured into the jars but won't be able to find their way out.
