- 1). Make sure your flowers mean something. Talking to your florist or looking online to find out the meaning of types and colors of flowers is a great way to make a selection that's meaningful. Don't assume the recipient will know the meaning. Mention it in the card.
- 2). Do go to the supermarket. Flowers from the grocery store used to be looked down on, but now they often have a beautiful selection, skilled florists, and better prices than florist shops.
- 3). Visit a florist shop too. Find out where they get their flowers. Buying local from a business that also buys local is great for your community. It also means your flowers will probably be much fresher and last significantly longer than if they have been shipped from other states or countries.
- 4). Place an advance order with your florist. This will ensure that you get the exact flowers you want, not whatever is left and wilting on Valentine's Day. It may also allow you to lock in a lower price than what would be charged on the big day.
- 5). Order online. Make sure to pick a reputable website like Pro Flowers or FTD, so you know your order will be fulfilled as promised. If you have time in advance, find out which local florist fulfills the orders and go check it out.
- 6). Cut out the middle man. Websites like FTD have photos of the exact arrangements you may order. However, if you're sending flowers to someone far away, but don't want to pay a premium, consider calling florist shops near them. While you may not be able to see a picture, you might save some money placing a direct order and the arrangement will be more original.
