- 1). Take a drive through Evergreen and note the locations of things that are of interest to you. Things to consider include schools, businesses, malls, restaurants, parks and fitness centers. When you find an area you like, branch out from it, driving in circles, looking for neighborhoods that appeal to you.
- 2). Park in a neighborhood you like and take a walk. Listen to the sounds and really get to know the feel of the neighborhood. If you see anyone sitting on their porch or taking a stroll, have a conversation. Ask if they know of any homes for sale or if they can recommend living in the neighborhood. Have a notebook ready to write down any names or addresses mentioned to you.
- 3). Look for signs in front of homes that list them for sale. Some people don't have a real estate agent list their home and, instead, try to list it on their own. Write down the numbers and call the people selling the homes that interest you. Ask to arrange a visit.
- 4). Call a local real estate agent and ask to be shown homes around your price range. Tell him what neighborhoods most interest you and why --- your realtor may be able to suggest neighborhoods with that information. Visit the homes and write lists of pros and cons, along with the list prices. Ask about the cost of electricity and heating for each home as well.
- 5). Have your favorite home inspected and appraised before you stop looking at the others. Homes in Evergreen are best if they're energy efficient and well-insulated against the cold, so ask the inspector to give you a good description of home's insulation.
