- 1). Put on a mask and gloves to protect yourself.
- 2). Throw away porous materials, like cardboard, cloth or paper, that exhibit fungal growth. Put them in plastic bags and seal the bags.
- 3). Dilute the bleach with hot water, creating a solution of approximately 10 percent bleach. Scrub nonporous areas with this mixture to remove fungus.
- 4). Fix any sources of moisture like leaking pipes, cracked walls or leaking roofs.
- 5). Prevent fungal growth by using a dehumidifier to reduce humidity. Keeping humidity between 30 to 50 percent will prevent fungus from growing.
- 6). Use a fan to increase air circulation. Proper ventilation and air circulation helps prevent fungal growth.
