Home Improvement Floor Ideas

    Laminante

    • Laminate flooring is a great way to create a warm look in any room in the house. Laminate flooring is made to look like natural material like wood or stone. Laminate flooring can be used in any room in the house, from the living and bedrooms to kitchens and bathrooms. It is made for high-traffic areas and will not dent, fade, stain or scratch. It is also more water-resistant than most regular flooring options.

Installation is different for each brand of laminate flooring, but all use the same basic concept. The laminate floor is made in pieces that lock together, much like a puzzle. The planks snap together and most brands don't require glue. The most important thing to do when installing laminate flooring is to make sure the existing floor is level and flat. If the floor is not level or is uneven it can cause the laminate floor to squeak when walked on.

    Carpet

    • Carpeting comes in many different styles and an endless number of colors. Some styles are thick and plush, while others are thin and are used in higher traffic areas. Berber, loop, velvet, cut and loop, cut pile, Saxony and cable are all different styles of carpeting, referring to the texture and look. Many home improvement and carpet stores have affordable installation prices. Often, they will charge you one flat fee for removing old carpet and replacing it with the new carpet and padding.

If you decide to install carpet yourself, you should remove everything from the room including old flooring and border or trim along the walls. Put tack strips in place for the new carpet. Lay the padding that goes under the carpet on the floor and attach it to the tack strip with staples. If there are any sections that need to be pieced together, use duct tape to make a smooth, even seam. Unroll the new carpet and slide it into place. Attach the carpet to the edges of the floor on the tack strips.

    Ceramic Tile

    • Ceramic tile can add class and beauty to your floors while being durable and easy to maintain. It is resistant to most stains, moisture and scratches. It is also fire, mold and bacteria resistant. Ceramic tile is a great material to use when remodeling because it can also be used for countertops, backsplashes or any other place needing tile. You can match the floors and other tile areas together.

Ceramic tile can be used glazed with a shiny finish or unfinished. Flooring is normally unfinished because it is less slippery when wet. Ceramic tile can be installed by a contractor of by you. Start with a clean, flat surface. Measure the area and lay chalk lines in the pattern you want the tile to lay. Place the tile on the floor following your pattern and add grout between the tile. Finish by adding a sealant on top of the tile and grout.
