Tooth Implant Bone Grafting: A General Overview of the Procedure

Are you thinking of replacing your missing tooth through tooth implant but are still worried about what is in store for you if you try this out?  If your answer is yes, then you have to know that familiarizing yourself with the entire procedure can work wonders in eliminating all your worries.  You also have to be aware that the current health of the specific bone through which the implant is to be inserted is required to be checked prior to deciding whether the procedure is indeed safe for you.  Your jawbone needs to be very healthy in order for it to be perfect for the treatment.  It must not suffer from erosion which is caused by gum disease, infection or previous tooth extraction in order for it to hold the implant in the most secure manner.

Tooth implant bone grafting is known to be a very long process.  However, the process can be performed right at the office of your dentist.  When it comes to doing the implants, your dentist will choose to either use an autogenous bone which refers to that taken right from your body or the artificial or synthetic bone.  Frequently, cow bone is also used in some dental offices.  The added bone will be used in stimulating your body to build a new one around it.  However, if the dentist used a synthetic bone, then your body will not respond to the stimulating process.

When it comes to the implant, you have to know that there are different methods associated with it.  Block bone grafting is one method.  It refers to the removal of bone from any part of your body and using it in the implant.  The bone may be taken from the hip or chin of the patient and then implanted to the specific area where a tooth is missing.  It will take at least three to six months before a new bone will grow in the area.

Allograft bone grafting is also another method.  It is done by harvesting bone from cadavers but under the very close supervision and control of bone banks.  This process has been around for several years now and it was able to supply a lot of bones for different medical and dental procedures.  Because the process is closely supervised, one will not worry about getting any transmitted disease from it.

Xenograft is also another popular tooth implant bone grafting method.  This is characterized by using animal bone in the implant.  However, there is a tendency for your body to reject the newly implanted bone as this is known to be a foreign substance in your body.

Tooth implant is indeed an effective approach when it comes to improving your teeth.  However, you have to make sure that it is right for you.  You are advised to make a research about this to ensure that you get all the results that you expected.  It is also important for you to choose which among the methods will suit you perfectly.  This way, you will be able to receive the most desirable results out of the procedure.
