RV Parks Near Aspen, CO

    • Your RV can tame the mountain roadsrv, motorcoach image by Greg Pickens from Fotolia.com

It's little wonder why Aspen, Colorado, draws in droves of RV campers. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy skiing, hiking and fishing, and those looking for a more relaxed experience can sit back and enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds them. After taking the winding drive up into the mountains, you'll want a secure place to park your RV. Fortunately, dozens of campgrounds surround the Aspen area, and many of these offer prime RV facilities.

    Portal Campground

    • A short 11-mile drive southeast of Aspen, Portal Campground offers a hub of hiking trails and fishing areas. RVs are limited to 20 feet in length, and camping is only allowed on designated and developed sites.

To reach Portal Campground, take Highway 82 south out of Aspen, and then turn onto Lincoln Creek Road for 7 miles further. Because space is limited, and there's a constant influx of new campers, Portal Campground does enforce a five-day stay limit. At least there are plenty of others to move on to once you're done here.

Hosting 47 campsites and a large group meeting area, Difficult Campground allows RVs up to 40 feet in length. Campers can enjoy picnic areas, backpacking and quick access to Aspen's historic mining town. A five-day stay limit is enforced. Call for rates and reservations.

Forty-three RV sites have 50-amp service, and all are level, shaded and large enough for camper slideouts. If you're missing a bit of civilization after being up in the mountains all day, Aspen-Basalt Campground also offers a heated pool, cable TV, a spa, laundry facilities and Internet access. Nightly and monthly rates are available.

    Meri Daes RV Park

    • A few miles southwest of Aspen, this park is distinguished by its display of an old marble slab foundation, which used to be a catholic church. The RV campsites are shaded, with water and electric hookups available, along with a dump station. Hot showers, a recreation site and fire pits add a relaxing atmosphere to this rustic park. There are only 14 RV sites available, so make sure to call in advance.
